Bucaramanga is a Colombian municipality, capital of Santander department. Is located to the northeast of the country on the eastern mountain range, branch of the Andes mountain range, on the banks of the Golden river. Bucaramanga account with 531.813 inhabitants and together with Floridablanca, Girón and Piedecuesta make up the metropolitan area and have a total of 1 126 945 inhabitants. Is located to 384 km from Bogota, the capital of the country. By being the capital of the department of Santander, Bucaramanga houses the headquarters of Santander Governorate, the Departmental Assembly, headquarters branch of the Prosecutor Office and the Metropolitan Area of Bucaramanga. Along with the title of capital of Santander, Bucaramanga holds the titles of the capital of the Soto province and the core of Metropolitan provincial development.

Bucaramanga is communicated with other cities of the country by highway. For air transport, it is provided with the International Airport Palonegro. It is surrounded by the municipalities of Girón, Floridablanca and Piedecuesta with which the metropolitan Area of Bucaramanga is confomed. Its economy revolves around the manufacture of footwear and similar; industry, commerce. The unemployment rate has remained relatively stable, ranging between 7 per cent and 9 per cent in the last four years.

The beautiful city, the city of the parks, from Colombia the most cordial of their daughters. Founded on December 22 of 1622 by Andrés Páez de Sotomayor and Miguel de Trujillo, being legitimized like city in 1869 thanks to the determination and laboriousness of its inhabitants. “Always forward not even a step backwards” it is the phrase ensign of this brave and charming ground.

“Bucar”: Lord and “Amanga”: room, its etymology is translated today in hospitality and growth to provide both natives and visitors a scenery full of wealth, product of the effort and “drive” of its race.
